January 2015 - A different take on the sunrise

The sunrises have been spectacular, but I have been restraining myself and trying to get to work on time!

But as I was getting in the car this morning, I just couldn't help getting a little different angle on the sunrise.

January 2015 - PA Critique

The assignment this week is critique.  It is not working so well.  There are too many photos being posted and there just isn't enough time in the day to give each a fair critique. And I don't have enough words!!

So I went out on Wednesday and shot some houses in downtown Boise, slated to be torn down.  And  little set of row houses that have been fixed-up.  I would imagine their fate is sealed as well.

There are feral cats who live in the area and someone feeds them regularly.

January 2015 NPE 7 Day Challenge Day 4 and 5

Day 4 -
Didn't have time to shoot during the day, so tried to catch some of the fog action this evening.\

Day 5-
The President of the United States was in town.  Didn't know they would be leaving town right by the office!

January 2015 - Trimming the old man

As I was trimming our 36 year old horse and he was cuddling me as usual..I wondered if I could capture this moment.

Thank goodness for cell phones!

January 2015 - PA Commonplace 3

Out my back door is a wondrous vista and I never tire of capturing it.  It may seem extreme to some people to think of a sky like this as commonplace...but here it is.  The winter sky is outrageous.

January 2015 - PA Commonplace 2

I have recently changed jobs and now work in downtown Boise.  I can walk to Julia Davis Park or into the heart of downtown to shoot.

I did not get past the ducks, geese and reflections in the almost empty pond for a couple of days.  Needless to say they are ubiquitous for most of us.

January 2015 - PA - Commonplace

The second Photo Assignment is Commonplace.  Those things around us that we may walk by without a second glance.

Did I say I am a sunrise/sunset junkie?  The winter sunrises and sunsets in the Treasure Valley are spectacular!  And they occur so often to be commonplace.  So I got to feed my addiction on this assignment too!

January 2015 - Photo Assignment - Ineffable

The Facebook page, Photo Assignment, is owned and managed by Don Johnson.  Every two weeks Don chooses a new assignment and writes and essay explaining it.

The first assignment of 2015 is "Ineffable".  The definition of ineffable is,

too great, powerful, beautiful, etc., to be described or expressed.

On the morning of January 1st, I drove out to Swan Falls Dam to get the sunrise,  The valley was socked-in with an inversion and fog.  So I was probably one of a very few who actually got to see the sunrise that morning.

January 2015 - A little explanation

This is a place for me to post my photographs for my friends and family to see.  And yes for me too.

At my last office four of us created a photo group and created a 52 week photo challenge for 2014.  We met and discussed our work for the week, watched videos about photography and participated in other photo events.

I am also participating in several social media photo groups.  On Facebook, Photo Assignment and Nampa Photography Enthusiasts and on Meet-up with the Boise Area Photography Lovers.

Looking back at the progression I made over a year is really very astonishing.  I dont' know if I will be able to recreate the group in my new office. so I am challenging myself to shot at least every other day.  I have also challenged myself to learn more about the post-processing possibilities available to me.  I have PS and LR to use in that regard.

So I will post at least one shot from a session or series of sessions and will organize them per month/year with the name the subject and the social media group (if it is associated with one).

As I said above, this is for me too.  It will give me a chance to look back and see how/if I have progressed.  Not only in the skills required to use the equipment/programs, but also to gain an understanding of how my esthetic has changed.

2015 January

I have left the comfort of my old photo group and now start over...
